About

Where should we start?

Many times, we have an idea of what can be helpful in our lives to get through an obstacle or to help us start doing something we should have been doing a long time ago. But we often don’t know where to begin, especially when the process does not seem that straightforward.

So, we postpone.

We often tell ourselves:
“This is not a good time. I will get back to it later.”

This makes us stall or even go backwards in the progress we are trying to make.

We know that our lives are busier and more demanding now than even a decade ago. We also know that therapy is one of those things that can help, especially in a busier and demanding time.

How to find the right therapist…

But it is one thing to know we need help. It is another thing to figure out how to find the right therapist and get started.

How can I choose someone out of the many therapists out there?

How would I know if my chosen therapist is going to be the right fit?

It might feel like throwing a dart on a wall and wishing it hits the bullseye. With these questions in mind, it is understandable to want to postpone the decision of choosing a therapist and getting started.

About Me

First Step

As a user and provider of therapy services, what I have found to help with this decision is to get a sense of who the therapist is before taking the next step of calling or making an appointment.

So, permit me to tell you the ideas and principles that guide my work as a therapist. I believe a person is separate from the problem he or she is facing, and I believe that everyone, from a two-month infant to 120-year-old individual, has and continues to acquire skills and knowledge from their lived experience.
The keys to the solutions to the problems in one’s life is somewhere within the person… perhaps not as easy to see right now.

In my role as a therapist, I listen to the problem stories to learn and understand how the problem may have influenced how a person views themselves and how the problem is affecting ones’ relationships. I am also listening to discover the skills and knowledge a person has acquired, especially those a person has found even remotely successful at any time.

A big part of my work is to reconnect clients to their acquired skills and knowledge. We then work collaboratively to figure out how to use these in tackling the problems being faced.

Who I am…

I was born in the United States and raised in Nigeria, West Africa. Upon graduating from high school in Nigeria, I relocated to the United States with my family to continue with my education. I practiced as a certified public accountant for several years before changing my career to become a psychologist.

My master’s degree in Counseling Psychology was obtained from Columbia University in New York. In my quest to ensure that I also obtain knowledge and skills in alternative methods to traditional psychology, I received my doctorate degree in clinical psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, California.

I have had the privilege of living, studying and/or working in different states of the U.S. including New York, Michigan and California. I like to view my work with people that consult with me as banding together to be freedom fighters. We are fighting to be free from oppressive situations, conditions or even stories that try to define us in the way that we do not like. I stand for social justice, peace and healthy living with fun and sense of humor sprinkled all over.
